I don't want to change the shape of the mouse I love.
The shape, size, weight, and the feel of the clicks.
After trying so many, I finally found my favorite one.
That is precisely why I don't want to change its shape or feel by adding a grip.
And there is another thing.
I don't want to have to keep replacing it every time it gets dirty or loses its grip.
When we developed USUBA, we started with two requirements.
To change the shape of the beloved mouse as little as possible.
To minimize the hassle of having to replace the grip.
The answer we arrived at is AIMPAD USUBA.
0.16mm.
There are many options for mouse grips, ranging from those emphasizing high grip strength to those focusing on thinness or durability.
Each has its own merits.
However, what we wanted was both a strong grip and to keep the mouse's shape as intact as possible.
It was both of those things.
The thickness of USUBA is approximately 0.12–0.16mm, including manufacturing tolerances.
It keeps the change in height from application to an absolute minimum, preserving the mouse’s original shape and feel as much as possible.
We didn't just choose a thin sheet.
Making it work as a functional grip at this thickness, while maintaining high grip strength and durability—
that is one of the aspects we were most committed to during USUBA’s development.
Making it thin is not the goal in itself.
To make it perform properly while remaining thin.
That is the thickness we arrived at to achieve that.
The name "USUBA."
If it were just thin, we wouldn't call it "Usuba" (thin blade).
In cutlery, an *usuba* knife is not named that just because it is thin, but because it functions perfectly as a blade even at that thinness.
USUBA is the same.
While pursuing thinness, it does not sacrifice its role as a grip.
"Perform properly while remaining thin."
It is from this philosophy that we named it USUBA.
Thinness alone was not enough.
I believe many people value the feel of a click just as much as they value the shape and weight when choosing a mouse.
Generally, softer materials tend to conform to the fingers more easily and provide better grip.
On the other hand, if it is too soft, the material will sink in when you place your finger on it.
To that extent, the feedback sent from the mouse to your fingertips also changes.
I don't want to add discomfort to a click feel that I have grown to love by applying a grip.
That is why, for USUBA, we prioritized not only thinness but also the hardness of the material.
It doesn't sink in more than necessary when you place your finger, yet it grips firmly.
Not being too soft also contributes to superior wear resistance.
Don't change the shape.
Don't change the height.
Don't change the click feel as much as possible.
I don't want to lose anything from my favorite mouse just to add a grip.
USUBA's thinness and material hardness were chosen for that exact purpose.
We simply couldn’t find a material that would work.
We began developing USUBA about four years ago.
However, we weren’t working on it continuously for the entire four years.
Thinness, grip, durability, and re-peelability.
There were times when development came to a standstill because we couldn’t find a material that met our requirements.
If we were just going to make something similar, there would be no point in AIMPAD creating it.
We had almost given up on development at one point, but it picked up again when we discovered the Japanese-made material we’re using now.
From there, we worked with the supplier to create numerous prototypes and make adjustments, and finally arrived at the current version of USUBA.
Thin. But the grip is strong.
For USUBA, we adopted a specially formulated high-performance material produced in a limited manufacturing environment within Japan.
It is a material that has a track record of being used in applications requiring high reliability, including domestic high-speed railway cars.
We cannot disclose the detailed composition or manufacturing process.
The reason we chose this material is not just because it can be made thin.
It is because it possesses both extremely high grip strength and durability to withstand long-term use.
Something your fingers touch every day.
Something that is subjected to constant friction through hours of repeated gameplay.
That is precisely why we focused not just on how it feels the first moment you touch it, but on how it performs after continued use.
We wanted to reduce the reasons for replacing it as much as possible.
If you keep using a mouse grip, sweat and skin oils will accumulate, and it will be subjected to constant friction.
USUBA is not invincible to wear and tear forever.
That is why we tested it by actually using it for a long period.
Daily use of several hours.
At the 3-month mark, there was almost no noticeable change in grip.
At the 6-month mark, there was some slight change, but by cleaning the surface, we were able to maintain sufficient grip.
If you are bothered by skin oils or dirt, clean it first.
If it’s still usable, don't replace it.
Moving from "replace it when it's dirty" to "care for it and use it longer."
Reducing the number of times you have to re-apply the grip is one of the requirements we set when making USUBA.
*Durability and changes in grip sensation vary depending on the individual, usage hours, environment, and amount of perspiration.
Don't let it trap sweat and oils.
USUBA is not a material designed to absorb sweat or skin oils into itself.
You can maintain it by wiping away any oils or dirt on the surface with a damp cloth.
Instead of letting dirt get absorbed into the material, you use it while keeping the surface clean.
Because it is something your fingers touch every day, we prioritized not only grip strength but also ease of maintenance.
However, because it is not an absorbent material, moisture may remain on the surface if your hands are very sweaty, which could reduce grip. For those who prioritize sweat absorption above all else, a highly absorbent grip may be more suitable.
What USUBA prioritized was the balance of thinness, high grip, durability, and ease of maintenance.
Used it for 6 months, then peeled it off.
With USUBA, we thought about the experience of peeling it off, not just the grip itself.
Here is the state of a USUBA grip after being used continuously for approximately 6 months, immediately after being peeled off the mouse.

Even after being attached for a long period, no significant adhesive residue was confirmed.
The marks visible around the edges in the photo are usage marks from skin oils and sweat accumulated over a long period.
They can be removed by cleaning.
From the moment you apply it to the moment you remove it, keep the mouse as it is.
That is also part of the design of USUBA.
*These are the results from our internal testing environment. Results may vary depending on the mouse surface material, surface treatment, usage environment, and duration of application.
Peel it off, and use it again.
I want to change the position a little.
I want to change where I apply it.
I want to use it on a new mouse.
If it is in good condition, USUBA can be peeled off and reapplied.
Because the material itself has a moderate level of hardness, it is easy to maintain its shape if peeled carefully, and it can be reused as long as the adhesive surface remains functional.
Even if a part of it deforms, you can just cut off that part and use the rest.
Re-apply it to another mouse.
Use it on another device that needs grip.
Don't just finish it once you stick it on.
We thought not only about durability but also about reuse.
There is a reason for MESH / STRIPE.
USUBA comes in two types with different surface textures: MESH and STRIPE.
This is not just a difference in design.
When operating a mouse, the movement of your fingers is not limited to just one.
Place your finger directly down and press.
Slide your finger slightly forward or backward while clicking.
Support the side with your fingertips.
Hold the rear of the mouse with your palm.
If the direction and movement of how your finger hits the grip are different, the feeling of "traction" you feel will also be different.
Therefore, we prepared two types of textures, MESH and STRIPE, so they can easily accommodate various finger movements.
Whether on the clicks, the sides, or the back of the mouse—
use it in your preferred places according to how you hold it and move your fingers.
I don't want you to waste even 1mm.
USUBA is not a product that has been pre-cut into the shape of a mouse.
100 × 148 mm.
We deliver a single sheet of postcard-sized material as-is.
It would be much easier to apply if it were pre-cut to the shape of a mouse.
Even so, USUBA chose the free-cut option.
How people hold their mice, where they place their fingers, and where they need grip vary from person to person.
And above all, we didn’t want to cut this material into a shape dictated by the manufacturer and turn the outer edges into scrap.
You can use just the click area.
You can use it along the sides.
You can even apply it to the back of the mouse.
Any leftover material can be saved for your next replacement or for another device.
It does require the extra step of cutting it with scissors.
But in return, you, the user, get to decide where and how much to use.
Just what you need, where you need it.
And make it last as long as possible.
That’s why we made USUBA a free-cut product.
Beyond the mouse.
USUBA is not cut specifically for mice.
Therefore, it can be used in other places where you want grip.
For example, a notebook PC with a metal chassis like aluminum.
On a smooth palm rest, the base of your palm might slip a little during long hours of operation, making it hard to stabilize your hand position when typing or using the trackpad.
By cutting USUBA into small pieces and applying it to such places, you can gently grip the base of your palm and stabilize your hand position.

Whether for a mouse or a PC.
All you might need is a tiny little piece.
In the shape you need, where you want to suppress slipping.
That is the usage made possible because it is free-cut.
Weight, kept as is as much as possible.
Even the entire 100 × 148mm sheet of USUBA is only about 5g.
What you actually use on the mouse is only a small fraction of that.
Considering its use on modern lightweight mice, we minimized the impact not only on the shape but also on the weight.
Where you need it, as much as you need.
The thinness and free-cut design are also intended to keep the mouse’s original weight balance from changing as much as possible.
